What is the Surfing Centre?

centro-de-surf-somo

Opened in July 2012, the Somo Surfing Centre is one of the most anticipated realizations that are outlined within the Competitiveness Agenda of the
Product Surfing
, which is shared by the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Energy, the Regional Council of Innovation, Industry, Tourism and Commerce of Cantabria and the City Council of Ribamontán al Mar.

The first reception centre for surfers of Spain can be found on Somo’s promenade, next to the splendid skatepark and with a surface area of 450 m² divided in two independent blocks.

Services:

The centre works as delegation of the federation and its sports facilities are managed by the Cantabrian Surfing Federation, according to a cooperation agreement with the City Council of Ribamontán al Mar.

Intended to offer a practical usefulness for the surfer community, the building combines different services: the north module is specifically designed for surfers:
changing rooms, lockers, warm-water showers and a surfboard storage, whereas the south module houses the reception, the tourist office and the multipurpose room, where the permanent exhibition about the “History of surfing in Cantabria” is currently placed.

Both modules are connected by an interior hallway where the public showers are located. The facilities are completed with a cafeteria, which helps to cover the maintenance costs of the centre.
